The Evolution of Storage?

New Drive Technology

The future in the palm of your hand

The spinning disk drive is a real pain to deal with. With its moving parts and high speeds, it is prone to mechanical failure and a big bump while in motion can scratch the disk and make your data unreadable. All those family photos, songs, and films of questionable content will be lost. But now, a team of researchers from Keio University in Tokyo have made a solid state drive (SSD) that holds up to a terabyte of information. Its small size and use of readio frequencies also gives it a boost in energy efficiency. I’m looking forward to a quieter, less accident prone computer in the near future…. circa 2012 actually.
